Have you guys ever come across merging two databases ?There was a decision in our env to merge a reporting database to development/UAT databases (might be for testing purpse) .But public synonyms are the main conflict .
Do you think changing public synonym name is the only option ?any experience ?

Depends what they are used for.
If they logically belong to the application, then they shouldn't be *public* synonyms in the first place, but only be present in the application schema.
