We are moving our production server to a new box. It will have the same server name and database name.

Do I need to drop and create (recreate) the database links?

Also, do I need all the passwords to create them?

Thanks.

This question goes both for the links on the database and also the links to the box/database.

Thanks again.

If you don't know how to do it just pick up your phone and hire someone to do it.

Maybe, even sure, but I will patiently wait for someone to post it and don't demand it.

If I have a serious problem and am in hurry I don't rely on forums to provide me the solution, I pay for it.

It sounds like you (and maybe others) have an agenda here.

I've been a member of free Oracle foruns like lazydba for over 10 years, and I can't recall running into people before mentioning payment for answers. Although many refer newbies to Oracle manuals, which is OK by me.

Actually, one I throw in something for free :

Doing a migration of a "production" server before having done the same migration with a test server is a really, really, rally, rally, bad idea.

Unless the server is not really critical, in which case you can try to solve the problems one by one afterwards, when they occur.

How can you say it's bad idea?

No need to re-create your database link if new database name same as your old production server.

I my opinion doing anything nonstandard against/with/to the production environment without testing is begging Murphy to intervene & produce a nasty surprise.

You do not know, what you do not know.
