10.1.0.4 listener spawns a child listener and DB is hung [message #394890]

Hi

Last week we had a problem with the listener on one of our 10.1.0.4 databases.
the TNS connections were timing out, and no one was able to connect ( unless as a local connection from the DB server ).

When I did ps -ef | grep -i listener I saw TWO listener processes with the same name , one is spawned by the other.
The only way to solve this was to kill -9 the new listener process

Is this a normal behavior for the listener to spawn another listener process ? and if saw - why did it cause all connections to hung ?
Any known bug regarding this ?

I did find a couple of reports of this behavior in 10. but no followup

It is not normal.
Did you find anything in logs?

Nop,

the second the child process was started ( 23:02:20 ) the listener.log stopped being written to. The last entry was an innocent Java connection , nothing special that I can see.

the next entry in the log is 45 minutes later , once we killed the child process.

ok,After some Metalink browsing I stumble upon doc id :284602.1
That is talking about this problem.

My DB is not a RAC DB. HOWEVER - the Oracle software used to be RAC binary that I relinked to non RAC.
But the $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/ons.config file was still there.
I removed the file and I hope that will not happen again
