Greetings,

For the past few months I have been happily developing a series of reports against an Oracle 10g database (which has been working fine for months now). However, about a week ago, I logged my client PC on and all of sudden I'm consistently receiving the error: "ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress" when trying to query Oracle.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what has caused this and more importantly how to resolve this issue.

Any pointers or suggestions would be most welcome!

Thanks!

Regards,

Do you have SYS privilege for this database? Else check with your DBA.

Thanks! I took your suggestion and I now feel like I'm getting closer but now I am receiving these messages from Oracle:

ORA-01172: recovery of thread 1 stuck at block 2012 of file 2
ORA-01151: use media recovery to recover block, restore backup if needed

Any suggestions are likewise most appreciated!

Thanks.
