Even if one of the mandatory background processes
(1.SMON 2.PMON 3.DBWRn 4.LGWR 5.CKPT ) is down or not working ,database may not shutdown or is up and running.
what is that background process.Please reply to this question.

The question is what does happen to the instance if one of these processes goes down and the answer is the instance follows the same way.
